COLLEEN  BROWN

Three Sets

29 July 2017

Unit 17 is thrilled to announce its second offsite event as part of Les Jardins: Three Sets by Colleen Brown. Three Sets takes place in Copley Community Orchard and Crows Point Community Garden where the artist has installed new sculptural works around these green spaces in East Vancouver. Each sculpture - or ‘set’ - is positioned amongst a select plant, including Dandelions, Buttercups and Tomatoes. The imagined flora theatres are inspired by significant Classic and Modernist theatre and rock concerts.

Colleen Brown (b. 1965) explores the relationships of objects and materials as a means of thinking through abstraction and social encounters. Brown lives in Vancouver and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design (Vancouver) and a Master of Fine Arts from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson (New York). Recent group exhibitions and events include Vancouver Special: Ambivalent Pleasures, Vancouver Art Gallery; Western Gallery, Bellingham; Hedreen Gallery, Seattle; Airbnb, Seattle. Brown is the recipient of the Vancouver 2016 Portfolio Prize.
