Scott Kemp & Luther Konadu

Cool World 2

28 August - 3 October 2021

The film Cool World (1992, Dir. Ralph Bakshi) proposes a reality where cartoons (art) and humans exist in separate dimensions, where cartoons (art) are desperate to become a part of the human dimension.

The art collected in Cool World 2 uses architectural space to think about the communication of care.

Scott Kemp (b. 1991) is an artist from Vancouver, BC, unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations. He is temporarily based in Chicago, IL on the traditional territories of the people of the Council of Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Potawatomi, and Odawa. Solo exhibitions include Compositions with Coloured Light, Flux Gallery, Winnipeg (2017); Compositions with Toys and Tinted Glass, CSA Space, Vancouver (2017); An Upper-Middle Class Fantasy, After Hours, Vancouver (2017); Master and Apprentice, Lobster and Leaf, Duplex, Vancouver (2016). Group exhibitions include Schererstraße 10 (Institut für Alles Mögliche), Berlin, Germany (2017); Soil Gallery, Seattle, USA (2017); Flux Gallery, Winnipeg (2015) and 221a, Vancouver (2015). Kemp was a co-founder of Duplex Artists Society and is recipient of a University Fellowship from the Graduate School at Northwestern University (Evanston/Chicago, IL) where he is currently studying towards an MFA.

Luther Konadu is an artist, writer, and editor of Public Parking; a publication for criticism within the arts and beyond. He is currently based out of Treaty One (Winnipeg).

Special thanks to Sierra Megas for her choreographed performances to activate the exhibition's sculptural components at 3pm, 5pm & 7pm on 27 August 2021.
